Kalalau Stargate
Some places exist at the intersection of the physical and something else entirely.
Kalalau has that quality. I've had my own experiences there — visions and symbols that came to me in meditation in my early twenties, the kind that stay with you. So when a friend described a stargate portal at the heart of the Kalalau Cathedrals, it didn't seem far-fetched. It seemed like something worth painting.
Kalalau Stargate is an exploration of that threshold — the place where perfect geometric order meets the raw, entropic grandeur of one of the most powerful landscapes on earth. Sacred geometry emanates from the center of the composition and expands outward into filaments that dissolve into the physical space of the cliffs and sky. Perfect order riding entropy into a temple of grand proportions.
The painting process was as unconventional as the subject. Half of it was made at a live music event — surrounded by people dancing, drawing on the collective energy of the crowd as fuel. It was the opposite of my usual process: meticulous, solitary, slow. Here the energy came fast and the brush followed it. The result lives in that tension — precise sacred geometry coexisting with loose, frenetic exploration.
